::The only good thing about the place is the location.... There's a random homeless dude living there, almost all the rooms are dirty, the shared toilets are basically always dirty, oh and there is NEVER any reception

::Not good at all, everything is so dirty, and they leave the sheets hanging all around the place, no one to take care of things. And internet doesnโt work properly. THIS PLACE IS SO BAD, DONโT BOOK IT

::This "hostel" should not only be closed down, the building is seriously unfit for human occupation and should be condemned. Like others, we were deceived by the fact that there is another hostel with the same name and logo and much better reviews not only in the same suburb, but on the same street. Having traveled for close to a decade to more than 50 different countries (and this being our third time to Seoul), I believe our group has reasonable expectations of budget accommodation. Star Hostel Seoul Dongdaeumun has the distinction of being the only accommodation our group has ever left before the end of our booking. We booked two private rooms, expecting small, basic but clean accommodation. The walls of the rooms were covered with vinyl in an unsuccessful attempt at concealing the black mould beneath. The bathroom light not only did not function but there was evidence of there having been a fire. There are electrical wires and leaks throughout the entire building. The bed in one room was held together with packing tape, and the wall in the other was covered in someone's left-behind false eyelashes. One of the two rooms was built into a doorway that would make it next to impossible for a large person, someone with a big suitcase, or anyone with mobility issues to enter. The kitchen was similarly dingy, with a joking death-threat posted on the fridge door which might have been funny had the whole place not felt like a death-trap. Within minutes of arriving we were greeted by another guest who was staying in a dorm room which he described as prison-like, except that a prison at least has locks on the doors. Given the hotel's seedy location and complete lack of staffing (the former reception area has been turned into a laundry pile) it felt like a very unsafe place, particularly for young travellers. Given the trailing wires, wet floors, evidence of a recent fire, bug infestation, and rampant black mould, we decided it wasn't worth staying. Unsurprisingly, we received no reply from the management. This is hands-down the most disappointing place we have ever stayed, and I strongly believe that the only reason it is still in business is the confusion between this hostel and the one with the same name and logo further down the street. Not only should Star Hostel close this business but the building should be torn down.

::When I entered the room, I encountered bugs. When I informed the staff and they sprayed, the bugs returned. Due to my allergy, I stated that I couldn't stay here. I requested to cancel my reservation and get a refund through Agoda, but they said, 'the property, as per policy, does not provide a refund.' They charged me for a service I didn't receive. Ultimately, I couldn't have known about this situation before going to the property. I don't recommend it to anyone.

::Donโt believe what the pictures tell you, the hostel is no where near as clean or tidy as in the ads. Although I only paid $17 a night, the place is pretty disgusting. There is no lockers to store valuables, the rooms do not have keys and the front entrance has no password or lock either so it means anyone can come in at anytime and potentially steal your stuff. There is 2 bathrooms shared between 20 people and one of the toilets smells disgusting. The whole hostel smells very musky and unclean. The beds are very uncomfortable and there are mosquitos in the rooms as my bunk mates got bitten multiple times. Wouldnโt recommend staying here unless it is an absolute last option. The only upsides is that it is very close to gwangjang food market and the wifi is surprisingly extremely fast.
