Loved loved this place! Thank you to the host - Jaeyoung(Harry). He was extremely generous with his time as he waited for me past 10pm to checkin. Even though i planned to visit this town for one day the experience was phenomenal!

This is Si Eun-jae, the operator. By chance, I noticed that there was a review of our hanok on Google MAP and looked at the post. After reading many people's honest reviews, we will think more and work hard to see how we can improve on any shortcomings. Although a long time has passed, we would like to apologize to the guests who experienced the inconvenience and bow our heads in apology for our failure to control/manage the lack of facilities and noise. However, regarding the soundproofing issue, there are some parts of the post that are different from the facts, so clarification seems necessary, but there is no function to add comments to the review, so I am posting it like this. It is not that old hanoks are not soundproof, but it is correct to say that traditional hanoks are very vulnerable to soundproofing. Because traditional Hanok is constructed with pure wood, in most cases, due to the nature of wood, as the wood dries after installation, gaps are created between the frames, which causes noise to leak out, making it vulnerable to soundproofing. Our hanok is a traditional hanok newly built in 2019. At the time of construction, we tried to reflect various methods to strengthen soundproofing, and the entire 9 inch (27 cm) thick wall was constructed with red clay bricks, insulation material, noise blocking material, gypsum board, and plywood. . In other words, it is not true that it is not soundproof because it was constructed with a thin partition made of plywood, etc. I don't think there would be any building owner who would finish the wood with structural materials, which would cost a lot of construction money, and then build the walls with plywood, etc. As explained, the soundproofing problem in traditional Hanok accommodation seems to be a common structural problem in almost all accommodations. There will be a lot of improvement if full wall repairs are done about 10 years after construction, when the wood is completely dry, but the soundproofing issue will still be an issue because there are limits to sealing between the disparate materials such as wood and red clay/cement. In conclusion, soundproofing is limited in traditional hanoks due to structural/technical limitations, so caution and consideration are required when using them. In other words, I can say that experiencing a traditional Hanok is an experience of understanding the characteristics of a traditional Hanok and being considerate of others. The reason I am giving you this lengthy explanation that sounds like an excuse is because I think it would be better to understand these characteristics and choose Hanok accommodation. If you are concerned about this, we recommend that you consider staying in a modern hotel rather than staying in a hanok from the beginning. Also, if you are staying in a hanok, you will need to be considerate to minimize noise late at night, considering that it is surprisingly vulnerable to soundproofing. Otherwise, it might be better to pay a little more and choose a private hanok. As I was trying to provide information on the limitations of traditional hanok accommodations, this has become a long post. We ask for your understanding for the inconvenience caused.
